Proposition 2 – SJR 18 – Explained in ASL
“The constitutional amendment prohibiting the imposition of a tax on the realized or unrealized capital gains of an individual, family, estate, or trust.”
Visual Description: A man is seated at a wooden table against a plain off-white background. He has light brown skin, a bald head, and a neatly trimmed beard. He is wearing clear-framed glasses, a black short-sleeve shirt, and a black smartwatch on his left wrist.
Context: Keep in mind, Texas currently does not have income taxes on any profit from stocks, investment, real estate, etc. This proposition asks voters if we should add an amendment to the constitution that bans Texas from adding taxes on capital gains tax on individuals, families, estates, or trusts. This applies to gains on investments whether they are sold or just increase in value. Votes yes means the Constitution will block lawmakers from adding a state capital gains tax. Votes no means lawmakers could create such a tax in the future.
